This is why I always respond to conservatives accusing me of supporting bloated inefficient government with something like 'I want government programs to operate as efficiently as they can, to be maximally productive in reaching whatever their goals are as measured by empirical study, and I want any necessary cuts and changes to be made, but I do not trust Republican politicians alone without any outside expertise or opposition input to make those cuts fairly, wisely and with the best interests of all American people at heart'.
