What I learned today.

That a "snow"drift that one would easily drive through/over if it were, in fact, still snow, can trap your car for a good half hour if it has melted and refrozen into semi-solid ice. Furthermore, it will prove virtually immune to the plastic snow shovel that all civilized human beings northerners carry in their trunk. Had I thought to start whacking away with the tire-iron earlier, the quagmire would have been considerably shorter in duration. Luckily, one of my TAs and a random stranger happened along to help. Still, very annoying.

Snow! You have snow? My kids want Michel Michael to send it all to our house, okay? I don't know how you would transport it...

There will be some new stuff there soon, you don't want the crusty old stuff, it is no fun to play with, I remember that. Have him bring the fresh stuff ;)

Meanwhile, here in Dallas, it was bright and sunny with a high of 70 degrees. Though, if I am ever independently wealthy, I want to move to the mountains of New Mexico. That way, in the winter I can just head down the mountain to get warm.

The lesson here..

You know, I never heard of this "keeping a shovel" in your car business until a couple days ago. In retrospect it makes sense, but I'm a little suprised that none o those Michiganders (many of whom are obnoxiously proud of their "we have crazy winters"osity never passed this one on to me...)

I'm just bitter about having to dig myself IN to my parking spot. It seems somehow crueler than having to dig out...

for one week in january 2004, we had to run our snowthrower to dig in and out EACH day.

what's even more fun is being frozen out of your car.
