Why the heck is this Iraqi:



Wearing a DLI pin? I somehow doubt that either A) He's affiliated with that fine institution, or B) That crest means something else in some other context. Apparently, Iraqi officers just get to make up their own damned uniforms. :-P

Well, being amused by the whole thing, I blew up the picture to 1500%, then I found a link to a picture of an acutal pin

The pin he is wearing appaers to be missing the flame on the top and scroll work on the bottom. It also appears that the diagonl bar is green rather gold.

Since about, I think, 1992 the official uniform pin-on crests have been these ones:

Probably the scrollwork and torch on the old ones kept chipping off or something. Or maybe the insignia was changed arbitrarily, as the Army often does.
