Better safe than sorry.

"US Supreme Court justice resigns

Justice O'Connor has regularly cast the deciding vote
Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman to serve on the US Supreme Court and a crucial centrist, is to retire."

Time for all liberals, atheists, pagans, and other social deviants to arm ourselves and form militia groups, _just_in_case_. The more Blue-staters there are who are willing and able to defend themselves, the less likely we'll all end up in Revival Camps.

I am NOT suggesting that liberal types engage in armed struggle to overthrow the state. That would be treason, after all. What I _AM_ suggesting is that, if certain religious fanatics attempt to mount a coup of their own, it would behoove all us loyal Americans to be in a position to oppose them.

But, for many blue staters, it is illegal for them to be armed.

This is true. Here's hoping their knee-jerk "Guns are BAD, mmmmkay?" dogmatism doesn't bite them on the ass.

The reason I'm happy to live in a red state. For me, it's as simple as passing the federal background check and walking out with whatever I paid for.

Yeah, but you also have to put up with all the Texans, I dunno how you manage it. ;-)

You better watch that, I'm married to a redheaded Texan. (I personally was born in Arizona).

My brains not working well enough to come up with a mocking-yet-friendly-and-not-too-offensive comeback. Just pretend I said something funny about Texans, Jackalopes, and the red-headed panchant for violence.

Hey! Some of us Texans are okay!

I mean, there's nothing in being a Christian that precludes me from being slightly deviant.

;-)

SOME Texans are OK. The rest are a motley assortment of villains that would give the Marquis De Sade pause. Cutthroats, lawyers, knaves, and Amway Salesmen. A pox on Texans! A Pox, I say.

;-)

What a great idea!

Let's arm ourselves, because that worked so well in Central America. Wouldn't want to be like those wimps Argentina who walked in circles around the Plaza de Mayo until Galtieri simply resigned.

Or like those 'wimps' who peacefully protested against pinochet and ended up in shallow graves. Or the 'wimps' at Tien An Min Square who got themselves reprogrammed in communist labor camps. Or the 'wimps' who got massacred while protesting in Usbekistan, just last month. Or like any of dozens of groups who found out that 'passive resistance' only works when you're opposing a regime that cares what their publics and the rest of the world thinks of their actions.

All of which is beside the point. I am emphatically NOT suggesting that liberal types engage in armed struggle. That would be treason, after all. What I _AM_ suggesting is that, if the fanatics of the far right attempt to mount a coup, it would behoove us loyal Americans to be in a position to oppose them.
