We bought 4 Upholder-class diesel-electric subs from the RN a few years ago. These had been laid up in reserve, and there've been problems getting them back in service, the most spectacular of which was the fire onboard HMCS Chicoutimi 5 Oct 2004, in which nine sailors had to be medevaced due to smoke inhalation; one of those sailors, Lt(N) Chris Saunders, later died of the smoke damage to his lungs.
