chaotic_nippleI just spent several hours reading through the Talk.Origins archive ( http://www.talkorigins.org/ ) and current newsgroup posts. It was vastly entertaining, and left me with the following conclusions: 1) It's a great place, if you like flame wars; 2) Due to the presence of various fanatics, it's nearly worthless for anything else. Kinda like Alt.Religion.Scientology.
Sigh. If only people would be more reasonable. While I, personally, might get slightly less immediate enjoyment out of life, I'm sure we'd all be better off in the long run. Failing that reasonableness, I wish I could find a venue that struck a good balance between enjoyable argumentation and useful information exchange. I've already conditioned my co-workers to not start scientific arguments with me, and it wouldn't be fair if _I_ started them. Sigh. Woe!
