Do you think the draft will reintroduced and if it is, will there be much
Opposition to it.

I doubt it'll be reintroduced, but if it is, then HELL YEAH there'd be opposition. Personally, the only way I would ever accept a draft is if the immediate family members of the Shrub and all the members of Congress are the first ones drafted, followed by the offspring of the rich, then the middle class, and then the poor. With NO deferments, for anything but medical reasons.

Thank you for replying to my question.
Do you think there would be a troop withdraw if the war dragged on
pass the George bushes term in office? If the America won the war
tomorrow would you regard iraq be an white elephant/liability or strategic assist.

The thing is, it's very hard to quantify "victory" here. IF we were to pull out tomorrow, some neocons would claim it really was a victory, no matter what chaos we left behind. If we were still there 10 years from now, some hippies would claim it was still a travesty, no matter how calm it is. In the final analysis, since we framed this as a "war of liberation", the only people qualified to judge victory are the Iraqi people themselves, and it's looking increasingly less and less likely that they'll thank us for it, in the long run.

I will say that if this war had been carried out _competently_, then I think it _could_ have been a great boon to freedom, democracy, and cute little kittens. Sadly, we'll never know. Iraq will, in all likelyhood, stay just another third world kleptocracy, and we're highly unlikely to try "nation building" again any time soon. Any other preemptive invasions we try, I don't think we'll even bother occupying the country, much less rebuilding it. Any war we have with, say, Iran, will either be strictly an air war, or an in-and-out ground campaign. All IMO, of course.

Also, I think as soon as the mid term elections are over, we're going to see major troop draw-downs, as well as a "Things are so great we're leaving now!" media blitz, regardless of the actual situation on the ground. Maybe I'm just cynical.
