Any one of the "Beautiful People" who complains about how terrible it is to be "judged by their appearance" is cordially invited to BITE ME. I think I find that about as annoying as the average black person would find it to listen to some honky whine about how "hard it is to be white". Good thing I'm not ugly _and_ black, or I'd probably climb a clock tower... :-P

I recently witnessed a conversation in an aquaintence's journal which was just about the worst example of this I could imagine. The aquaintance posted about how the core of anorexia isn't girls who imagine they're fat, but girls who hate the very idea of being fat; our whole social thing of 'skinny is beautiful, fat is ugly,' etc.

One of the first posters to reply went on and on about how goddam hard it was to be a thin, beautiful, perfectly porportioned genius. Horror of horrors, people were constantly complementing her! And even worse, it was on her looks! The poor girl couldn't get get random strangers to constantly compliment her brains to save her life.

Oh, the horror.

Someday, genetic engineering will result in an entire generation of people who are effortlessly brilliant, athletic, beautiful and healthy. Not only will they not have any peers who are less than perfect, both mentally and physically, they will have difficulty even concieving of that imperfect condition. By that time, most of us fossil humans will be dead or in old-age homes, and they will regard our tales of frail ugly sickly humans with the same skepticism that we listen to "When _I_ was your age..." rants from our own elders. Can you imagine how utterly insufferable our great-grandchildren will be?

There will still be poor children in Africa.

We can just send our great-grandchildren to Africa.
