What a horrible disappointment.
Jun. 1st, 2005 11:01 pmI got to see the final Star Wars movie. Didn't even have to watch a pirateed version, Lucasfilms sent us an official VHS. I am truly grateful to Lucas, for without that act of kindness, I'd have to put off savaging this movie until I got home. I'll rant at greater length later, but my main complaint is that Lucas has completely lost his ear for dialogue; Scenes that _should_ have been heartwrenching came off as contrived and ridiculous. This movie could have been spectacular, but Lucas managed to turn it into a movie that was merely "ok". And what the HELL was with the ending? This is the 21st century, heroines don't die of broken hearts anymore, could he possibly have written a more demeaning ending for Padme? The movie wasn't all bad, and I suspect I'll enjoy it greatly when I'm back in the states and able to drink and Myst it. Until then, here's a quick spoof I found:

Also, Orson Scott Card writes a real review here: http://www.hatrack.com/revengeofthesith.shtml . The irnoy is, in his latest books, Orson himself has started 'believing his own press' about his genius, to the detriment of good storytelling.
