Cities cracking down on saggy pants

RENTON, N.J. - It's a fashion that started in prison, and now the saggy pants craze has come full circle — low-slung street strutting in some cities may soon mean run-ins with the law, including a stint in jail.

Proposals to ban saggy pants are starting to ride up in several places. At the extreme end, wearing pants low enough to show boxers or bare buttocks in one small Louisiana town means six months in jail and a $500 fine. A crackdown also is being pushed in Atlanta. And in Trenton, getting caught with your pants down may soon result in not only a fine, but a city worker assessing where your life is headed.

Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that juvenile delinquents _are_ more likely to wear these idiotic fashions. How, exactly, is preventing them from wearing size-70 pants with no belts going to prevent them from being juvenile delinquents in the first place? Surely, all these laws will accomplish is make it harder to identify the little hooligans? Furthermore, the pants in question make it more difficult for the thugs to run from the police, thereby making them less EFFECTIVE criminals. Shouldn't we be encouraging this?

It reminds me of the story I read about the British politician who wanted to ban cell phone cameras because they were associated with "happy slapping". As far as I'm concerned, it's a GOOD THING when petty criminals record evidence that can be used against them.

the Atl city council is proposing this law as well. The argument that they present is that it will give the cops probable cause to stop gangsters. Then cops can search and do whatever else they do when they stop gangsters. The crime in Atl is off the charts and the gangs are growing. So they are getting desperate.
I guess the whole concept of fighting poverty just doesn't occur to them. stupid atl government.
anyway, I can't imagine this law would in any way be constitutional. The ACLU is already fighting it.

Hmmm. I guess having a "Legalize it!" bumper sticker makes it more likely the driver is a pothead, so that's probable cause too. How much you wanna bet the people supporting this law will rant against "Big government" when it comes to, say, taxes?

Thank goodness they are finally taking notice of this HUGE issue. *sarcasmic sigh* I agree with you- they should let these hooligans be noticed that's the reason I don't understand why they try to push confomity. Then these criminals won't stand out like the sore thumbs that they are.

My 16 year old "hooligan" went through a very short period of wearing his pants so big that the top half of his shorts always showed. We were in a department store when I notice his satiny bright green boxers staring me in face as he bent over. As anyone with an evil sense of humor might do, I reached over and whipped down his pants, proclaiming that if he wanted to show off his underwear all the time, then the whole world might as well get a good look. Probably traumatized the little bugger for life, but at least he wears pants that fit now.;)

Well, that's what you get for not paying attention when you're editing and proof reading for typo's. Accidentally posting your comment twice without realizing it. Sorry for the double post. The second one makes more sense than the first.
