Yet I can't bring myself to feel much guilt. I went to some truly spectacular parties this weekend. Seeing as this is Talk Like A Pirate day, I'll be usin' that idiom to describe the first shindig I boarded: a "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme party, at O'Connell's Irish pub. There were wine, women, song and debauchery, I tell ye! If anyone of yez is e'er in the Savannah area and a guy name o' Chris Cook is hosting a party, GO! Don't hesitate for a moment, me hearties! Me only regret was being too distracted by my dance partner (if you go to Chris' website, she's the girl on the most recent party fliers. We shop at the same comic store, is that cool or what?) to enter the Pirate Song contest. Me sterling rendition of "I am a Pirate King" woulda won, alas. Me shipmates and I went on a genuine "bar crawl" to 3 other clubs afterwords, and we didn't run ashore till 8 in the morning. It be days like this that I don't totally hate being stationed down here.

So, that was friday night. On saturday, I went to a superhero theme party at the Velouria Lounge. Incidentally, I have to smack my co-worker Ian. He's known about this club since it opened, he's heard me bitching repeatedly about how none of the clubs we usually go to in Savannah have anything at all to offer me, and yet he's NEVER FLIPPING TOLD ME ABOUT "THE V"?!!?? I hate him with all my spleen right now. This hate is mitigated somewhat by my joy at finding the place at all. The V has great music and a clientele that _doesn't_ make me want to scream, and I will go there every chance I get from now on.

So, anyway, the party: The music was louder than I prefer. I approve of loudness on the dance floor itself, but at the bar, the music should be muted enough you don't have to scream while ordering. And there were more 'mundanes' than last week too. All told, still a good party. I met up with Lea (who my friends that were at Friday's party now refer to as "The comic girl", and are convinced that I slept with. I'll try to disabuse them of that notion, while hoping that said disabuse does't jinx things) and my civilian buddy Rodney again.

This is a good place to describe Lea's many virtues: She's hot as hell, intelligent, reads comics, has more toys than I do, and is just a whole lot of fun in general. Normal folk don't understand the importance of this, but every geeky guy has to be periodically reminded that there exist cool girls, be they hot or not, who share the same interests. And while I'm proud to say that I've matured enough that appearances are no longer my primary criterion, I'd be lying if I said I didn't notice them. While I doubt there's any real future with this particular girl, I'll enjoy her company while I can. It's just a good thing I've also matured enough that I can separate the longings of the heart from the urgings of the gonads; were I less mature, I'd be madly 'in love' already and generally making an ass of myself.

Just as an aside, I've long since figured out that I am not a natural introvert, I'm a natural extravert who was traumatized into being an introvert. I have no idea why some days I'm able to put my introversion aside with no effort at all, and other days it's impossible. If I could figure that out, life would be much better.

Back to the party narrative. Met up with Lea and Rodney, drank somewhat heavily, but not enough to regret it, danced, talked, socialized, compared tattoos with random strangers, broke up a fight (Go me!), went to an after party, crashed at about 5 AM. Lea was nice enough to let me borrow her couch, I slept extremely late, and now here I am, back at home, and readying for another week of drudgery. At least this week I'll get to shoot things. Hopefully I won't have to work all next weekend. I am sooo sick of the Army, and desperately hope I can somehow manage to get out on schedule. Possibly a forlorn hope, but a dear one.
