"And give Glory to Him, for the Hour of his Judgement is at hand!"

Santa has Judged me to be a Good Boy, though, so I shall celebrate by downloading the Ultima V: Lazarus patch for Dungeon Siege. Yes, it's finally out! The most ambitious fan-project for a video game EVER!!! This is a sign of Cool Things to come, surely, forsooth! I highly urge everyone to buy a copy of Dungeon Siege (Should be ten bucks in the clearence bin of any game store) and then download the mod. Then marvel at the sheer glorious... GLORY of it all. Whodathunk that mere Fans could produce an adaptation that rivels or exceeds the quality of any professionally produced game out there? Could this mark the beginning of the Fannish Age, a wondrous era when fandom flowers and 99% of fanfic doesn't suck? We can only hope...

I was a very avid fan of the Dungeon Siege, but I don't understand the name of the patch. Ultima V was a killer game way back in the day, but I'm pretty sure it was called "Quest of The Avatar", or something like that. I am sad that the name was pirated by another good videogame from yore.

Ultima V made up a significant percent of my childhood. I still remember using a flashlight to change the 5 1/4" floppies so that I could keep the lights out, setting the mood for the CGA tri-color graphics. When a Shadowlord appeared... holy crap, that was scary.

"Quest of the Avatar" was Ultima IV, Ultima V was "Warriors of Destiny". The patch is called "Lazarus" because they aimed to 'Raise Ultima from the dead'. The storyline is the same as in the original U5, just with updated graphics and game play. So far, it's pretty good. Stupid _work_ is taking up too much of my time to really delve into it, though. :-P

Ah Dungeon Seige, the game I discovered/borrowed/stole from my ten year old sister while visiting the family (Relevant background info: I'm 30 and we are both ladies or young ladies, as the case may be). Somehow that makes me feel even more ashamed of enjoying it, even though I could just as well have purchased it at the store. The normal helping of shame just comes from being a hetero 30 year old female with the hobbies of a 15 year old boy (no gutter thoughts allowed ... I mean clean hobbies).
