I had my very last wisdom tooth yanked today. There was no really compelling reason I _had_ to get it done now, but I figured better now, than try and squeeze in during the post-deployment crush, or even worse, having to wade through the VA bureaucracy. The procedure itself was over quickly and with no complications, but tragedy struck when I got to the pharmacy: I had expected the slip to read "The Good Stuff, as much as his system will handle", NOT "800 MG motrin, every 8 hours". To make matters worse, my profile, instead of reading "2 weeks no labor of any kind, with vodka shots every half hour" said "48 hours light duty". What is the Army coming to? Time was, you went to sick call, you got some benefit out of it! :-P

I should be fine in a few days. So far, no swelling at all.

I must say, we have experienced much less of the rumored VA bureaucracy than expected. My dad finally decided he should start taking advantage of his status as a veteran to get cheaper medical care, and I expected there would be tons of hoops to jump through, and months of waiting, but not so. He got an appointment in two weeks for a checkup, and just needed to bring his discharge papers.

Of course, they are from 1950-whatever, but he's organized and knew just where they were.

Anyway, he's been receiving excellent care from the VA. And prescription drugs? Cheapity cheap.

True Dat. My payment for Happy Pills should be @ $3.00 per refill.

Oh man, I'm sorry. I had all four of mine done at DLI by a civilian, well 3 of them were done by a civilian, and they gave me so much of the good stuff. I had alot of post surgery swelling and some residual pain even 2 weeks later and they were still pumping me full of vicodin. I think I had 4 days off or so,I don't remember because it was over a four day weekend and I had extra duty anyways....that and I was so doped up I could barely function.
As we converse, kinda, I'm pretty loaded on percosets. I got a hernia at work a week ago and had surgery so I think our drug orders got mixed up. They sent me all your good stuff. Sorry dude. Feel better and take pics of your chipmunk cheeks.

It's actually not too bad. The Motrin's taking care of what little pain I'm in, though the subtle sensation of the other teeth re-aligning themselves is kinda weird. But there's no pretty _colors_, dammit! Last time, the percocet had me seeing little sparkly contrails and feeling At One With The Universe!

BTW, I can't find yer hubby's email address. Could you remind him to bring my Stargate: SG-1 DVDs with him when he comes up here? LT K still has 'em.

I'll be sure to remind him. He's supposed to call today so I'll let him know. Is he going to see you before you go stateside, or should I tell him just to pack it in all his stuff?
Damnit, y'all are so close to coming home, its almost unbearable! The anticipation has to be 10X worse for y'all!

Ask him to look around for a camelback, too. And a Balaclava. I can't think where else I could have left them, so they _must_ be over there...

Ever see the TV series "House," by any chance? The way this thread is going I figure someone might have this particular line of dialogue memorized:
Dr. Gregory House [addressing patients at the clinic]:"...But not to worry, because for most of you, this job could be done by a monkey with a bottle of Motrin. Speaking of which, if you're particularly annoying, you may see me reach for this: this is Vicodin. This is mine! You can't have any! And no, I do not have a pain management problem, I have a pain problem... but who knows? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm too *stoned* to tell. So, who wants me?" [Nobody moves] "Who would rather wait for one of the other two guys?" [Everybody's hand goes up]
